I am very much a newcomer to the world of all things endurance. Having played rugby union for the majority of my youth, representing at county level and even playing at Twickenham in front of 80,000 fans. At the age of 23, I entered the 2013 Rother Valley Triathlon purely as a means of passing time over the summer months; I managed to get myself around in one piece and had got the triathlon bug. I then went on to study a masters in Sport Science and Nutrition at Sheffield Hallam, joining the triathlon team in the process. My first full season went rather well, culminating in a 6th place finish at the 2014 World Duathlon Championships and a win at the Wales Sprint Triathlon.
Running has always been my weak link out of the three disciplines, working alongside Steve has only helped, however I did question his and my sanity when doing hill reps up Win Hill during this winter’s snow. Somehow Steve managed to tempt me into entering 2015’s Tigger Tor Fell Race, my first ever running race, let alone fell race! It didn’t go too badly, I was rather chuffed with an 18th place finish.
2015 is looking to be an exciting year, more fell running, cycling races and time-trials; however my main goal is to perform well at the European Triathlon Championships held in Geneva mid-July. I might even see if the big wigs at British Triathlon will let me have the Front Runner logo emblazed on my GB tri suit!
