Fell Run - Kinder Edges

31st August 2016

Trail Run Fell Run - Kinder Edges from Snake Pass

When.

Meeting at 6.45pm on Wednesday the 31st of August. There is plenty of parking but it can be tricky to find the side road to take. There's a map below to show where we'll park and meet. As you drive out of Sheffield on the Snake Pass look for signs to Lockerbrook and Rowlee Farm on your right, directly opposite this on your left is a turning - take this!

What.

A more demanding route than we've done before - a good outing up onto Blackden Edge for some fantastic single track running back down into the valley after recceing the route this week is became apparent this is more of a fell run than a trail run.

The route.

After recceing the route this week it became apparent this is more of a fell run than a trail run. It's not an easy outing and shouldn't be taken lightly (We'll be returning to trail running after this week). A gentle start along the road towards Upper Ashop is much needed before putting hands to knees and grinding it out up narrow trods onto Blackden Edge (Steve's Disclaimer - I cannot promise an easy route up here and will likely lose the trods, expect bracken, heather and undergrowth). The effort is rewarded with some amazing views and exceptional running along the top of the edges back towards Win Hill before dropping back down into the valley.

The run is 5 miles and will probably take around 1h10m.

Route Map. Run Anticlockwise. Please excuse the little detours on the route map, I had to satisfy my curiosity whilst recceing the route.

Other important things you need to know.

Please please please remember this is a tough run. It goes over some very tricky ground and is exposed to the elements.

Although we sort the route we ask that everyone who comes along is able to look after themselves and isn't reliant upon any other member of the team, this means you need to have the appropriate equipment (Waterproof tops and bottoms, hats and gloves, water and food, map and compass and an idea of where we are going to be running).

Post run.

A pit stop in the Ladybower Inn will be necessary.
